Stade Brestois have announced the signing of former Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique de Marseille, Newcastle United and Chelsea forward Loïc Rémy (36). The former France international joins on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Brest have picked up the veteran Ligue 1 forward, who has amassed over 200 appearances and 71 goals in the competition, on a free. He compensates for the departure of Islam Slimani, who left to join Anderlecht on deadline day. Since his departure, the French club’s sporting director Grégory Lorenzi said that he “expected much more” from the Algerian international during his short six-month spell in Brittany.

Rémy has been without a club since he left Turkish side Adana Demirspor in the summer. He recently began training with Brest, and has now made the move back to Ligue 1 official. The forward, who scored 28 goals in 79 games in the Premier League during spells with Chelsea, Newcastle and Crystal Palace and QPR will wear the number 14 shirt. Brest will be the sixth French club for which Rémy has played.
