In a general rehearsal before this weekend’s big Serie A derby against Lube Banca Marche Macerata, Diatec Trentino extended their 2014 DenizBank Champions League winning streak to three, gathering the maximum amount of nine points (along with Belogorie Belgorod, Knack Roeselare and Halkbank Ankara in the other pools) and further aggravating the situation in the Turkish champions Arkas Izmir. Berlin Recycling Volleys from Germany also grabbed a vital win as they downed the brave Swiss Energy Investments Lugano in their third consecutive away game.

Diatec Trentino’s performance in Izmir on Wednesday evening was perhaps their most solid one this season. A very focused game with a little amount of errors marked the Italian dominance over their hosts, whose Champions League crisis has again been made prominent. Hoag‘s lads averaged thirty-three percent in overall attack efficiency and simply lack the class they once used to demonstrate in the tournament’s several previous editions. Roberto Serniotti, however, had all the reasons to be delighted with the score, especially with Alex Ferreira‘s 17-point contribution.

“I am very happy with the performance of my team because we did not leave any chance to our opponents and could keep good consistency from the start up to the very end. We showed a very solid performance in reception and this way everything went easy. Much credit also goes to our setter Donald Suxho, who orchestrated our spikers really well. This is the right booster we needed for the big match coming up on Sunday in the national league.”

Arkas Izmir – Diatec Trentino 0-3 (15-25, 21-25, 13-25)

Arkas Izmir: Gulmezoglu 2, Perrin 10, Kamnik 2, Sivula 9, Urnaut 5, Dunge, Yesilbudak – libero, Koc 5, Gokgoz, Ramazanoglu, Capkinoglu

Germany’s Berlin Recycling Volleys had more trouble in Switzerland. Had it not been for the resolute comeback at the end of the third set, with the score tied up at one set each, Lugano might’ve easily made it to another tie-break, having prevailed over Arkas two weeks ago. The new signing Srecko Lisinac was the hero for the guests, who now ended a three-week-long Champions League away run. The young Serbian added five blocks and an 88-percent success in attack to his 20 points. The same amount of points was contributed by the usual sole highest scorer Robert Kromm.
