NXT U.K. TAKEOVER: BLACKPOOL RESULTS

The first-ever NXT U.K. TakeOver special kicks off with an elaborate video package documenting the journey that the U.K. fan base has gone through over the past few years. The video covers the debut of the original WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, to the debut of the NXT U.K. brand, to today’s first-ever NXT U.K. TakeOver: Blackpool live special on the WWE Network.

NXT U.K. Tag-Team Championship: Tyler Bate & Trent Seven vs. Zack Gibson & James Drake

Following the kick-ass opening video package, we shoot inside the sold out Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, England, where the announcers welcome us to the first-ever NXT U.K. TakeOver: Blackpool event. We then head to the ring for our first match of the evening.

The first contest will be the finals of the NXT U.K. Tag-Team Tournament designed to crown the first-ever NXT U.K. Tag-Team Champions, as Moustache Mountain — Tyler Bate and Trent Seven — square off against the team of Zack Gibson and James Drake.

After making their ring walks and the formal introductions, this one gets underway with Bate and Gibson starting things off for their respective teams. The two do a lot of mat and chain wrestling, amateur/MMA style, in the early goings. Now the two trade some pin attempts. The crowd is getting into the action straight out of the gate.

Both guys end up tagging out, so now Seven and Drake are the legal men in the ring as the action continues. After some back-and-forth action, Seven tags Bate back in and they do a tandem somersault splash on Drake. Now the Moustache Mountain seems to be in control of the offense. Gibson tags in but Bate hits a hurricanrana before tagging Seven back in.

Seven is focusing his attack on the arm of Gibson now. Seven working armbars and other attacks on the arm. Seven hits a big forearm on Gibson that knocks him out of the ring and then hits a wild suicide dive on the opposite side of the ring onto Drake on the floor. The fans inside the Empress Ballroom explode with a big pop.

Gibson now with a double throat chop to take out Seven on the floor. Gibson throws Seven back in and tags Drake as they start pounding out Seven with double team offense. The smoke clears and now Drake is working over the back of Seven. They are doing the old-school tag team angle where they isolate Seven in the ring and keep him from tagging the fresh Bate. Seven is now busted open as well and bleeding all over the place.

Eventually, Bate gets the hot tag from a beaten and drained Seven, and he comes in like a ball of fire. At one point, he gets both Drake and Gibson on his shoulders and does an airplane spin while holding both guys at the same time. Bate is nearly suplexed from the apron to the floor, however he ends up reversing and hitting an exploder suplex that sends Drake flying and crashing onto his own partner, Gibson. Bate follows up with a wicked running shooting star press from the apron to the floor on both Gibson and Drake. Bate goes for the Tyler Driver ’97, however he fails to. Bate hits the Bop/Bang. Seven hits a running powerslam and Bate follows in with a flying headbutt but they still only get a two count on a believable near fall.

Each guy starts hitting their finishers and we have close near falls all over the place as the finish feels to coming soon. They have definitely given this match plenty of time to deliver. Gibson pulls Bate off the apron on his shoulders and Drake speared him on a dive that prompted a huge “Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t!” chant from the crowd.

Finally, we come to our finishing sequence, which sees Gibson and Drake finally hit the Ticket To Mayhem on Seven for the win. We have our first-ever NXT U.K. Tag-Team Champions! Click here to check out several photos of Gibson and Drake celebrating their victory with their new NXT U.K. Tag-Team Championship belts both in the ring, on the stage with executives coming out to congratulate them, and backstage as soon as they walked behind the curtain.

Winners and NEW NXT U.K. Tag-Team Champions: Zack Gibson & James Drake

Jordan Devlin vs. Travis Banks

Up next is our second bout of the evening, which features Shawn Michaels’ favorite NXT U.K. Superstar, Jordan Devlin, going one-on-one against Travis Banks.

We see a re-airing of the moment where “The Irish Ace” Devlin attacked “The Kiwi Buzzsaw” Banks as he was arriving to the building before the match. Banks then comes out limping during his ring walk. He starts slapping his knee over and over again, and is clearly selling the beatdown and the leg injury going into this match. Banks ends up attacking Devlin as he came down the ramp before the bell sounded to officially start the match. Devlin throws Banks into the ring steps knee-first before they continue to brawl outside the ring.

Devlin continues to viciously attack the injured knee of Banks. He is kicking it on the steel ring steps over and over again. Finally, NXT U.K. Assistant General Manager Sid Scala comes out with several referees and officials to separate the two. Eventually, Banks is assisted to the backstage area.

While all of that was going on, Devlin stayed out in the ring and cut a promo. Johnny Saint ends up coming out and talking to Scala and they reveal that they have a back-up plan. With that said, Finn Balor’s music hits and the fans in the Empress Ballroom explode. Balor, Devlin’s original trainer, makes his way to the ring and is announced as the replacement against him.

Finn Balor vs. Jordan Devlin

We now have our official second match of the evening underway, as Balor, the replacement for the injured Banks, goes one-on-one against Devlin.

The two go face-to-face as the announcers talk about their history together. Devlin then slaps Balor. Balor responds by blasting Devlin with a striking combination. He goes for the Coupe de Graes immediately, however Devlin rolls out of the ring.

Now we get going as Balor and Devlin battle on the floor outside the ring. Devlin gets the upper-hand briefly and mocks Balor’s pose in the ring. Balor takes over control of the match and goes to the top rope for the Coup de Grace again, but this time Devlin dropkicked him off the rope, knocking him to the floor where he was nearly counted out.

The action gets going again now as the two trade some back-and-forth chops before Devlin hits a standing moonsault out of nowhere. The announcers sell the fact that these two know each other so well that neither can get a definitive advantage over the other.

Devlin hits his head butt and his pull-up high angle back-drop for a near fall. Balor ends up hitting a penalty kick from the apron on Devlin and goes for the Coup de Grace a third time, but again Devlin avoided it. Devlin hits a nice moonsault but Balor got his knees up for the landing. He goes for the Coup de Grace for the fourth time and this time he gets it for the win.

Winner: Finn Balor

No Disqualification: Dave Mastiff vs. Eddie Dennis

Next up is the No Disqualification Match pitting Dave Mastiff against Eddie Dennis. The video package airs, the guys make their walks to the ring and the formal introductions are made. Here we go.

The two exchange strikes straight out of the gate, which ends when Mastiff hits a running cross body to break things up and establish control. They end up outside the ring brawling.

Mastiff smashing Dennis into the ring steps. He takes the ring steps and throws them into the ring. Dennis grabs a Singapore cane from under the ring and whacks Mastiff in the dome with it. He then hits a Russian leg sweep with the Singapore cane.

Dennis finally fights back, hitting a cross body and a Black Hole Slam onto the ring steps for a close near fall. Now a steel chair is introduced to the action. Dennis takes advantage of a mistake made by Mastiff and hits the Severed Bridge, which the crowd loved.

A table is brought into the fray by Dennis. The fans in the Empress Ballroom start chanting “Tables! Tables! Tables!” Mastiff hits a Senton onto Dennis on the concrete floor outside the ring. Dennis answers back with the Next Stop Driver. He tries another Severed Bridge, attempting to use the move to put Mastiff through the table propped up in the corner, however things didn’t go his way.

Mastiff managed to hit a release German suplex and his rolling cannonball senton through the table for the victory.

Winner: Dave Mastiff

NXT U.K. Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm

The video package for our co-main event of the evening airs, showing the build-up to tonight’s NXT U.K. Women’s Championship bout, which features reigning title-holder Rhea Ripley defending against Mae Young Classic tournament winner Toni Storm.

After their respective entrances and the formal pre-match championship ring introductions, we get our second title bout of the evening. The two circle each other as the match gets underway.

Rhea tried to attack, but thus far, neither is able to establish control over the other. Rhea tries fleeing from Storm, however Storm hits a dive onto the floor to take Rhea out.

Back in the ring, the action continues and Ripley starts taking over. She is focusing her attack on the back of Storm. The announcers sell the fact that Ripley is attempting to take advantage of an old injury to Storm’s back. She is now using body scissors on Storm to squeeze the life out of her lower-back. She blasts Storm with some vicious suplexes and slams.

Ripley continues to show her size and strength advantage over the challenger, as she is literally rag-dolling Storm all over the ring now. Eventually, Storm starts fighting back. She nails a big head butt off a whip that puts them both down.

The two grab each other, almost NHL / hockey-style fist-fighting style, and simply swing like crazy women until the other can’t any longer, which took a minute. MMA fans will recognize it as the Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama spot from their legendary fight in PRIDE Fighting Championships.

Storm is putting some offense together, as she hits two German suplexes in a row. She fails, however, to get Storm Zero. Ripley tries for the Riptide, however Storm managed to avoid that. Ripley locks in her inverted Cloverleaf submission to deliver some more punishment to the already injured and badly beaten back of Storm. She also goes for an ankle lock and then nails a German suplex for a two count.

The champion ends up finally hitting her Riptide finisher for a very close, believable near fall. Ripley is dominating Storm at this point. She is rag-dolling Storm down to the mat with short-arm clotheslines, however she goes to the well one too many times, as Storm avoids a third one and hits Storm Zero for a close, believable near fall of her own.

Storm escapes another Riptide attempt from the champ before hitting Storm Zero for a second time. This time, she gets the pin and the win. We have a new NXT U.K. Women’s Champion! Click here to check out several photos of an emotional Toni Storm celebrating her victory over Rhea Ripley with her newly won NXT U.K. Women’s Championship in her grasp and watch as she jumps into the arms of the fans in the front row and gets even more emotional as the reality sets in, as well as her first photo as new NXT U.K. Women’s Champion as she walks through the curtain to the backstage area.

Winner and NEW NXT U.K. Women’s Championship: Toni Storm

WWE U.K. Championship: Pete Dunne vs. Joe Coffey

Up next is our main event of the evening, as Pete Dunne puts his WWE U.K. Championship on-the-line against Joe Coffey. The video package telling the story leading into our headline bout of the evening is playing now.

Once the video package ends, Joe Coffey makes his way out to the entrance stage with the rest of Gallus accompanying him. They stay at the top of the stage, however, as “The Iron King” walks down to the ring. Out next is the WWE U.K. Champion Pete Dunne by himself. “The Bruiserweight” makes his way to the ring now and we are just moments away from our main event.

The bell sounds after the formal pre-match ring introductions and the two get closer to each other. The action begins and the two trade arm and wrist locks early on until Dunne starts using some small joint manipulations to gain advantages in the grappling exchanges. Coffey tries for his Discus Lariat early, however Dunne successfully avoided it. Dunne is focusing his attack in a way that will weaken Coffey’s hands and arms.

“The Iron King” does an impressive reversal of a double wrist-lock from Dunne to a deadlift-style vertical suplex. Coffey throws Dunne to the outside of the ring and out to the floor, where “The Bruiserweight” appeared to take a bad bump on his face. Dunne is still very much in the match, however, as he quickly hits a backflip over Coffey off the ring steps and hits an enzuigiri to briefly stun the challenger. Coffey ends up blasting Dunne with a brutal slam on the entrance ramp. Coffey seems to comfortably be in control of the offense at this point. He is focusing his attack on the back of Dunne.

Dunne starts fighting back now, as he blasts Coffey with a number of stiff shots before executing an moonsault quebrada on him on the floor and an X-Plex back in the ring. Dunne continues to sell his back as he fights on. Coffey cuts Dunne’s offensive run short, hitting a big powerbomb for a close near fall. Now, he has Dunne locked in a Boston crab. “The Bruiserweight” remains stuck in the hold to the point that he appeared to pass out before ultimately dragging his way to the ropes in dramatic fashion, forcing a break of the hold. Dunne is using his small joint manipulations again, and now the two start trading headbutts back-and-forth.

The action starts picking up again now, as Dunne avoids a lariat attempt from Coffey and hits an STO before locking in the Koji Clutch. Dunne transitions to an ankle lock off a deadlift-into-a-tombstone attempt by Coffey. Both guys try for their finishers, but neither succeeds. Finally, Dunne hits the Bitter End, however Coffey shockingly kicks out at 2 and a half. The two fight on the apron now. Coffey hits a sit-down powerbomb on Dunne on the apron, leading to both guys falling out to the floor outside the ring. They both barely make it back into the ring before the count of ten.

Coffey starts landing punches and kicks on “The Bruiserweight” but Dunne starts fighting back. The two fight back-and-forth some until Coffey hits the lariat out of nowhere. Dunne somehow kicks out at two and a half as Coffey did when Dunne hit the Bitter End earlier in the match. Dunne locks in an armbar that he refuses to let go, even when hoisted up to the top rope by Coffey, who was still stuck in the hold. Eventually, Coffey manages to slam his way out of the hold with one arm. Each guy goes for the Bitter End, with Dunne eventually hitting one. Coffey finally hits his Discus Lariat from the apron, but didn’t seem to fully catch Dunne with it flush.

The two battle on the top rope, with each ultimately falling down and Coffey seeming to get the worst of it after taking a bad fall onto the floor outside the ring. A few moments later, they return to the same spot, leading to both tumbling into the ringside barrier.

Back in the ring, Dunne hits a Discus Lariat of his own and then another Bitter End, but still couldn’t get the pin. Dunne now locks in the arm bar and bends Coffey’s fingers until he is finally forced to tap out. Dunne retains his title via submission victory.

Winner via Submission and STILL WWE U.K. Champion: Pete Dunne

After The Match: WALTER Arrives

After the match, a worn out Pete Dunne is victorious and still the reigning WWE U.K. Champion. It appears that the show is going to go off the air, when suddenly, the Ringkampf theme hits and the Ring General WALTER makes his way down to the ring.

A completely shocked Dunne watches as the crowd explodes. WALTER gets in the ring and stares down the WWE U.K. Champion. Coffey tries to get back into the ring, but WALTER kicks him in the head and hit the Ringkampf pose while Dunne, in trademark fashion, stood there holding his WWE U.K. Championship in his mouth. WALTER simply walks back up the ramp as Dunne watches on. Check out several photos of WALTER’s NXT U.K. debut at the end of the Dunne-Coffey bout at NXT U.K. TakeOver:Blackpool.
