Michelle Williams shined brightly and in more ways than one at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Manchester by the Sea on Tuesday night.

The Oscar nominee walked the red carpet in a shimmery one-shoulder dress covered in metallic silver and gold sequins and punctuated with grommet cutouts. Williams, 36, styled her platinum blonde pixie to one side and kept her jewelry and makeup to a bare minimum for the star-studded event.

Although she looks at ease in the limelight, Williams recently confessed to InStyle that she didn’t always find these kinds of events a breeze. She revealed that although she has come a long way since then, that she still carries that insecure deer-in-headlights girl with her—literally.

“I found this picture recently and it’s of some school dance or something that I went to and I look so bad, but I put it in my wallet and I carry it around with me because I have, like, so much sympathy for that girl,” she says. “And that’s kind of probably what I look like at, you know, maybe the first red carpet that I went to—just really, really out of my depths,” she adds. “I like feeling like I’ve grown up.”
