A tiny portion of island has disappeared from Japan’s territory which has sparked an investigation into the matter.

Esambe Hanakita Kojima island was officially surveyed and registered as an island by Japan’s coastguard only in 1987. At that time, its exact height could not be determined. And now 30 years later, it has supposedly disappeared, possibly due to weather elements.

AFP reported that the island had recently risen to a height of 1.4 metres or four and a half feet above the sea level. It could even be spotted from the northern tip of Japan’s Hokkaido island. However, this was all before it vanished.
