Speaking after AS Monaco’s 4-2 victory against Leeds United at Elland Road, Ismaïl Jakobs (23) spoke to Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle about his World Cup experience and replicating his international football in Ligue 1.

A goal and an assist for you tonight Ismaïl – that must be the perfect way to finish this mid-season break…

“I think it was a good test, and of course, this gives us confidence for the restart of the season. They were a hard opponent, and there were a lot of duels so it wasn’t easy, but I think we played really well.”

Having competed in the World Cup with Senegal, you have had less preparation time than most. How are you feeling heading back into Ligue 1 action?

“I think physically I’m in a good condition. There was a little bit less vacation, but I’m okay, and I’m feeling fresh for the rest of the season.”

And how was that experience, playing for Senegal in the World Cup?

“It was an amazing experience for me personally. I also think we did quite a good job in the group stage. It was amazing. I’m a player that lives with the atmosphere. The atmosphere at the World Cup was amazing, so that gave me a bit of a push, and just as I do with Monaco, I just tried to give everything in the games.”
