Alexander McQueen is to design a special collection for US mass retailer Target. The line is part of a new fashion program, Target Designer Collaborations, in which McQueen is the first designer to participate. The collection will be called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target and is an extended version of his McQ diffusion line.

Leila Moss, singer of the British The Duke Spirit, was McQueen`s muse for this capsule collection. The collection will feature lightweight knits, skinny jeans, bubble dresses and cuffed shorts. It will also include swimwear and cotton voile print scarves. The clothing will be available from March 2009, for a limited time only.

Target Designer Collaborations is aimed to be an ongoing program that will bring a series of established designers to the masses at low prices. Each collection will appear in a very limited edition and every designer chosen will chose a muse or collaborative partner to inspire the entire collection.

The new fashion program is a separate label from Target’s Go International, which focuses on young or emerging designers and, in the past, has featured names such as Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Rogan and Richard Chai. These collections have been instant hits, selling out in days.

McQueen, who established his secondary line, McQ Alexander McQueen, last year, said at the time that it’s “younger and more renegade [than the main collection], but always signature McQueen.”
