Kashmir is an Indian state with a rich cultural history, heritage and cottage industries. While in recent times many industries were closed down due to unfavourable circumstances, some are coming back to life.

In an attempt to revive silk industry and generate employment in the region, the government on Tuesday reopened decades-old silk factory, installed by Sir Thomas Wardle, president of the Silk Association of Great Britain in 1897. This old-fashioned Silk factory is situated at Solina Rambagh area of Srinagar city.
