This past weekend the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets competed in the Dragon Open hosted by Minnesota State-Moorhead. The field of teams included schools from NJCAA, NAIA, and the NCAA.
Winning championships for RCTC was freshmen Morgen Moreno (Hayfield, MN) 197 and Jeremiah Colon (Madelia, MN) 174. Both wrestlers placed first in their weight classes. Also placing for the Jackets was Dillon McGee (Nevis, MN) 141, Isaac Haman (Kasson, MN) 149, Ryker Vander Woude (Jackson, MN) 184, and Noah Berg (Farmington, MN) 184.
Moreno wrestled in the upper division bracket at 197 and started the tournament with a Fall in 1:33 over Je-Mario Jones of Minot State. In the semis he decisioned Jacob Arends of Concordia 7-4. In the finals Morgen won a decisive decision over Cole Witzig of North Dakota State University.
Colon started his tournament with a bye, which placed him against Parker Wahl in the semis of Mary. Colon won the match 2-0. In the finals, Jeremiah dominated Jacob Scherber of St. Johns picking up a 12-1 major decision.
“The guys wrestled well and it’s always great to see the young guys become leaders of the team. Most of these guys are freshmen and we are excited to see them develop,” said coach Randy Rager.

The team will wrestle next at the Husky Open on December 8th in Saint Cloud, Minn. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
