With the road to WrestleMania looming this Sunday at the annual WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, the long-term status of “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is quickly becoming the talk of the industry, as the former UFC icon quickly approaches her one year anniversary as a pro wrestler.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there has been a lot of internal discussion backstage about Rousey’s future, and the current feeling is that she will be wrapping up her full-time run with WWE either at, or shortly after WrestleMania 35.

Rousey reportedly agreed to one year with WWE as a full-time wrestler, including appearances at almost every episode of Monday Night RAW, top matches at each pay-per-view, and somewhat surprisingly, a relatively hefty amount of live event performances.

The Observer has noted on several occasions that fans shouldn’t expect “Rowdy” Ronda to be a mainstay on wrestling television for years to come, as her long-term goal is settle down with her husband Travis Browne, a fellow MMA star, and start a family.

Of course, “never say never” as the old saying goes. It’s very likely that once it comes time to negotiate a new contract, Vince McMahon will do everything in his power to secure one of his top assets for as long as he can. Whether this means another year full-time, or limited dates like Brock Lesnar and John Cena, or something different altogether, remains to be seen.

Right now the current plan is still for Rousey to defend her RAW Women’s Championship against both Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match at WrestleMania XXXV this April. As always, the card is subject to change.
