Former WWE star Rey Mysterio is heading to the Lucha Underground promotion.
Lucha announced Saturday night that Mysterio made a surprise appearance at Saturday night’s TV taping in Los Angeles, California.
“Rey Mysterio surprised a full house of fans during a taping of El Rey Network’s ‘Lucha Underground,’ the wildly-popular Lucha Libre wrestling series from Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Burnett, United Artists Media Group, Robert Rodriguez, and FactoryMade Ventures,” reads the press release.
Mysterio will be part of the second season of Lucha Underground on El Rey Network when the show returns Wednesday, January 27.
Mysterio recently joined the AAA promotion in Mexico, making it seem like it was inevitable that Mysterio would join AAA’s U.S. venture.
Lucha now has a signature Lucha star with strong U.S. wrestling credentials to build around, similar to Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) during Season 1.
