PSV will host the North London side on Wednesday in the Champions League as both teams will be desperate to keep their last 16 hopes alive

PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur will meet in the group stage of the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with both sides aware that a defeat will leave them in danger of being unable to progress to the last 16 stage.

Both clubs have already lost out to European big guns Barcelona and Inter Milan in their group and are winless so far – fighting to stay alive just one of the many ‘ Groups of Death ‘ in the Champions League this year – and know that a victory on Wednesday will keep their hopes of making it into the knockout phases alive.

It’s a tough task ahead for PSV and Tottenham in Group B as both Inter and Barcelona have both registered six points each and are clear at the top of the table.

A Lionel Messi masterclass was the undoing of both sides, with the Catalan side registering a 4-0 win over the Dutch team and winning 4-2 at Spurs’ home of Wembley Stadium.

Tottenham fell to a crushing 2-1 loss to Inter in their opening European fixture after initially opening the scoring with a 1-0 lead, but squandered the three points after the Italian side scored twice to clinch the last-minute victory during the dying stages of the game.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino can take solace that his next two Champions League games will be against PSV – where two victories could set them up in a promising position for the final two ties against Inter and Barcelona – but their Dutch counterparts will be in the same situation and will not succumb so easily.

Talisman striker Harry Kane has been accused of suffering from fatigue this season and not quite yet managing to hit his goal-scoring heights of last term, netting just five games in the Premier League and scoring once in two Champions League games.

The North London side have lost their last three European matches heading into the fixture against PSV, all coming in the Champions League – though they have never lost four consecutive major European matches in a row.
