GK, Jean-Louis Leca (Lens) – The veteran keeper, who’s being phased out slowly before next season, made a trio of sharp close-range stops before halftime to keep his team in the game before a devastating second half beat Nice 3-0. A snap save from Gouiri was a highlight and he showed brave goalkeeping all game.

RB, Houboulang Mendes (Lorient) – The FCL defender has often looked out of his depth in Ligue 1 but was a menace for Kolodziejczak, especially before halftime, with his intensity and keenness to push on in a huge 6-2 win over Les Verts. One such run won the penalty before his precise cross assisted the equaliser.

CB, Boubacar Kamara (Marseille) – Despite impressing in midfield for some time, he sees himself as a centre-back and his return in recent games has been a real success. Especially before halftime in the 2-0 victory over Montpellier, he was again often imperious, save for one ludicrous pass across his area which should have resulted in a goal for Savanier.

CB, Jonathan Gradit (Lens) – Sound the most underrated player in France siren once more for the Lens centre-back who led a stoic defensive display despite his side being down to 10 men for much of the 3-0 win over Nice as the hosts managed to comfortably halt the advances of Amine Gouiri and Andy Delort.

LB, Caio Henrique (Monaco) – After a superb year under Niko Kovač last season, he’s been less effective for Philippe Clement but his whipped free-kick was one of the goals of the weekend in Ligue 1 and he set Monaco on their way to a much needed 2-1 win over Troyes.

DM, Cheick Doucouré (Lens) – He defended stoutly after Haïdara’s red card in the win over Nice and curled in a superb second from the edge of the area. His passing in the second half was direct and expansive, a big part of Lens’ devastating salvo after the break, one cute through ball assisted the third.

CM, Ibrahima Sissoko (Strasbourg) – This was another astute and focused display from, quietly, one of the league’s best midfielders this term, who has been released in a more attacking role of late. It was he who opened the scoring by nipping in between a pair of ponderous defenders. His intensity and direct style was often too much for OL in a 1-1 draw.

AM, Enzo Le Fée (Lorient) – This was the type of skilful, elusive, creative performance his talent has long promised but which has rarely been seen in Ligue 1 as ASSE were thrashed 6-2. His ability to find space and nip past static defenders while linking play throughout was central to a devastating attacking display, admittedly aided by some weak defending. Calmly fired home the third too.

WF, Lionel Messi (PSG) – Contributed to the 6-1 win over Clermont with three assists and some delightful passing in all areas besides. His lovely first-time ball assisted the opener for Neymar before the game’s highlight as his chest control and volleyed through ball set up Mbappé for 2-0.

WF, Benjamin Bourigeaud, (Rennes) – Two more goals for Bourigeaud put Rennes on their way to another win, 3-2 over Reims, as they edge closer to a Champions League return. It’s difficult to make a case for anyone else to genuinely challenge Kylian Mbappé to be Ligue 1’s player of the season, save for maybe Téji Savanier.

ST, Kylian Mbappé (PSG) – Secured a hattrick via three typically exacting finishes and he was in involved everything PSG did well in an attacking sense without really having to exert himself. Unsurprisingly, the world’s best player was far too good for an open Clermont side.
