In honor of International Women’s Day 2019, Lana Condor is teaming up with Old Navy for a powerful project.
The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actress, 21, joined forces with Old Navy and Suzanne Asbury-Oliver (the only professional female skywriter!) to kick off an inspiring activation, #SKYSTHELIMIT, that will deliver encouraging messages to women in cities all over the United States. On March 8, Asbury-Oliver and her team from Skytypers will write and photograph uplifting messages for women to see everywhere in Los Angeles from above the Hollywood sign to the Santa Monica Pier.

Asbury-Oliver’s Skytypers fleet will also write powerful messages in the skies of New York City and San Francisco as Old Navy encourages women and girls to look up and see they can accomplish what they set their mind to.
“I think that the message of a hero as a woman and just shooting for the stars is something that I’ve always believed in,” Condor tells PEOPLE, adding that her decision to partner with Old Navy was a “no brainer.”

What are the messages you would want your young female friends to see written across the sky?
I would definitely want “You’re stronger than you know,” which is my message. I want them to see “You’re beautiful.” I want them to see “Don’t be afraid, you can do anything.” And “Love each other.”
What women in your life inspire you every day?
My mother because she’s the most supportive person in my life. She’s also the strongest person I’ve ever met. She’s gone through so much. And she comes out so optimistic and strong every single day. My grandma, and actually, my manager. She’s been a huge influence in my life, and she’s very strong. She’s been supportive and a perfect example of women helping other women.
What challenges in your career have you faced as a woman?
I think I’ve been very blessed. So many people paved the way before me in this industry so that me and my peers don’t have to deal with as much of the crazy stuff as the women before us had to. But I believe sometimes guys have it a little easier, they just do. Here’s the thing: I’m so honored and admire the women who have spoken out and shared their stories about the #MeToo movement. They have single handedly made the industry a safer place. It’s getting better, being a young girl in Hollywood, but there’s still challenges.
How are you pushing through that?
You have to remind people that you are strong and you’re not just going to roll over because a guy makes it seem like he’s powerful to you. Just being able to hold your ground and command and demand respect from people around you in the industry. Working with Old Navy and their campaign is the perfect place where I can remind girls to stand their ground.
What outfit makes you feel the most powerful?
A leather jacket makes me feel very confident. I would say black jeans, a leather jacket and a statement T-shirt. This is something that makes me feel badass. I love shirts that have quotes. And then some great sneakers!
Switching gears to your hit Netflix film, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, did you steal any of your character Lana Jean’s clothing when filming wrapped?
Yeah, I stole a lot. Like, a whole lot. I’m sure they’re going to want it back, but I took quite a bit. I’m sorry! I stole a hoodie she wore. I stole the shoes she wore. I stole a jacket.
Were you surprised by the fan response to the sequel?
Of course. I kind of knew that people had been hoping to get a sequel, so I knew there would be excitement. But I was pleasantly surprised by how excited and supportive people were.
What are you binge watching on Netflix right now?
I finished Bodyguard recently. Obsessed! He’s so handsome. [The show’s Golden Globe-winning lead, Richard Madden.] Like, where did he come from?
