Wardrobe malfunctions can happen to anyone, especially those dressing for the red carpet. Slips can easily expose a bit too much, sheer dresses can reveal more than desired with one flash of a camera and low necklines often take the full plunge. But for actress Kristen Bell, she’s miraculously been able to avoid any mishaps. How? She spills her secret, below.
In a new interview with PEOPLE for our Red Carpet Special issue, Bell reveals why she’s never had the misfortune of dealing with a dress dilemma.

“Before I leave the house, my stylist Nicole Chavez takes photos with and without flash to make sure nothing is accidentally see-through and tapes everything down so no boobs go flying out,” says The Good Place star. “It’s worked… so far!”
Adding, “Now I’ve probably jinxed myself.”
One of her most recent red carpet appearances was at the 2019 Golden Globes in January, where she said she felt like a total princess on the carpet.
“Maybe it was the dreamy color of my dress or the diamonds I got to wear or being nominated or again — the diamonds,” Belle jokes. “I was going to say I felt like a queen, but Beyoncé’s the queen. I know my place.”
Despite making these glam appearances, she says she would prefer if she could live in sweats and sneakers all the time — even on set.
“I always try to make a convincing argument that my characters should wear sweatpants and sneakers, because in my real life I wear sneakers or Birkenstock-type sandals all the time,” she says.
Her all-comfort all the time attitude even extends to date night. When asked when the last time she coordinated outfits with a date, she revealed that it was during New Year’s Eve last year.
“Dax [Shepard, her husband] and I both wore onesies,” she said referring to her actor hubby. “We rang in the New Year with a family-friendly sleepover at a friend’s house, and when you’re staying in and have kids, it’s all about comfort.”
