How Model Chanel Iman’s Approach to Style Has Changed Since Becoming a Mom

Chanel Iman‘s 5-month-old daughter, Cali Clay Shepard, adorably coos in the background as she speaks to PEOPLE over the phone about all things style, motherhood and yes, even the Fyre Festival drama.

“She’s so active! She’s wiggling out of my arms as I’m trying to talk to you,” Iman, 28, tells PEOPLE. She may be a world-famous supermodel, having walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and high fashion shows like Yeezy, Tommy Hilfiger and Jeremy Scott, but off-the-runway, Iman deals with the same things as any other new mom.

“It’s challenging, but it’s all worth it. I love being a mom. [Cali]’s just worth every second,” she says.

Luckily, thanks to some help from those around her, Iman has been able to carve out little bits of time to get back into her work post-baby. “I have a lot of support from my family here. They always watch her when I have to go to work. It’s a bit more difficult, especially when I’m home alone [Iman’s husband, Sterling Shepard, 24, is often on the road playing football for the New York Giants]. But all moms get things done,” she explains. “I’m just learning the best way to multitask.”

So now, putting together elaborate outfits when she’s not hitting a red carpet isn’t as much of a priority for the star, which is why she’s been doing a lot of her own shopping at Uniqlo since welcoming Cali.

“I’m very simple when it comes to dressing myself. I just wear simple jeans, a basic t-shirt and maybe just a hoodie and tennis shoes. If I want to go out, of course I step it up a bit. But for everyday life clothes, I look for clothing that is just comfortable and easy which I’ve been able to find at Uniqlo,” Iman says.

Like many other moms, in between working and chasing after a growing a child, Iman says she’s left with little time for anything else. “I haven’t had any time for myself in a very long time. Raising Cali is a job in itself,” she says. Though when she does get “a little bit of a break,” the model indulges in a relaxing bath.

“That’s the only thing I do sometimes. I also try to go to the gym every day to get my body back into shape. It makes me feel good too,” Iman explains.

With her one-year wedding anniversary coming up on March 3, Iman is going to take a break from mommy duty and enjoy a special adults-only getaway with Shepard.

“We have a trip planned with other couples since it is Sterling’s off-season,” she says. “I’m really looking forward to that.”
