MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team opens the 2014-15 dual season on Wednesday night against crosstown rival Concordia College. The dual begins at 7 p.m. at Concordia’s Memorial Auditorium.
It is part of only two duals prior to Christmas for the Dragons. The other will be against LIU-Post in the Grapple at the Garden in December.
The Dragons opened the season at the Bison Open on Saturday. Several wrestlers competed although only three competed attached.
Like MSUM, the Cobbers will open their dual season on Wednesday. They competed at the Bison Open on Saturday as well. The top returner is senior Jacoby Bergeron, who was an NCAA Division III All-American at 133 pounds last season after placing sixth in that weight class. Bergeron was 29-11 last year.
Last Time Out: Abdullatif Leads Way at Bison Open
Sophomore Nader Abdullatif finished fifth to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team at the Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State on Saturday at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.
Abdullatif had a solid debut weekend for MSUM. He opened with a 3-2 win over Mitchell Eull of Minot State and then pinned Alex Macki of South Dakota State in 3:54 to reach the semifinals. He lost to Michael Kroells of Minnesota 13-0 and then fell into the consolation bracket. He lost to Eull, 3-1 in sudden victory but rebounded to beat Macki for a second time, 1-0 in the fifth-place match.
Junior Chris Bascon, competing at 184 pounds, opened with a 9-0 win over Faris Karabomi of Minnesota and then fell to Hayden Zilmer of NDSU by fall in 1:15. He was pinned by Dalton Lunde of Minnesota in 1:56 to finish the day 1-2.
