After a strong 2020 despite the pandemic, it appears UFC and ESPN+ will get a nice financial kickoff to 2021.

At Saturday’s post-UFC press conference, Dana White said that the much-discussed Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier rematch is “signed” and that the fight deal is done. He didn’t give a date or location.

McGregor tweeted Friday “lightweight division incoming” after tweeting a smiley face Thursday to which Poirier responded with a diamond emoji. The two have been trying to make a fight all month with McGregor giving the date of January 23rd at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The two fought at UFC 178 in September 2014 with McGregor defeating him by first round TKO while both were at featherweight. Since then, McGregor won both the featherweight and lightweight titles while Poirier won the interim title.

White also said at the press conference that Khabib Nurmagomedov remains the UFC lightweight champion and is giving him time while acknowledging earlier this week that he feels “The Eagle” will un-retire and attempt to get to 30-0, something his late father and trainer wanted for him. It was thought that if Nurmagomedov retired, the McGregor-Poirier fight could be for the vacant title.
