THURSDAY NEWS UPDATE

If you haven’t seen it, go out of your way to see last night’s episode of the Cruiserweight Classic.  It was a two match show with Gran Metalik vs. Akira Tozawa and Brian Kendrick vs. Kota Ibushi.  Both matches were outstanding in very different ways.  That makes two straight weeks of excellent shows.

The CMLL Anniversary show, which is one of my favorite shows of the year, will not be streaming live tomorrow night.  There will be an iPPV through YouTube that will air starting Saturday morning.

While the NFL doesn’t start on Mondays until 9/5, Raw is hardly unopposed this week, as there will be a major college game with Mississippi (No. 11) vs. Florida State (No. 4).
Roman Reigns was picked as No. 1 this year in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated top 500.
The WWE will be doing fund raising al month for pediatric cancer research.  They will be selling bracelets and bandanas starting on Monday and through the end of the month with 100 percent of net proceeds benefiting Connor’s Cure.    
The WWE Network will be adding an Eddy Guerrero collection called “Eddie Guerrero:  Viva La Raza.”
WWE is advertising for a Smackdown taping on 11/1 in Newark, NJ, a main event of Randy Orton & Dean Ambrose vs. A.J. Styles & Bray Wyatt.

Alex Nicholson got in hot water for remarks that were racial in nature about Hyun Gyu Lim at UFC 202 on 8/20 while he cornered Mike Perry, who faces Lim.  UFC announced that the company has talked with Nicholson and Perry and told Nicholson that any future incident of this nature could result in a suspension or termination of his contract.
Jorge Masvidal vs. Kelvin Gastelum and Marcin Held vs. Diego Sanchez have been added to the 11/5 show in Mexico City.
Michael McBride will replace Mairbek Taisumov on 9/10 in a fight with Nik Lentz on the Cleveland show that features C.M. Punk’s debut.
