Los Angeles: Australian basketball star Ben Simmons has been fined $US20,000 for "making contact to the groin" of Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry.

The incident happened in the second quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers’ 116-95 win over the Raptors on Thursday at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Centre.

Lowry fell down along the baseline after boxing out Simmons, who threw an elbow that struck the Raptors guard down low, and he stayed on the floor appearing to be in pain.

Simmons headed back down the floor and was not issued a foul on the play. After a review by the NBA on Friday, Simmons was also assessed with a "flagrant foul one".
