Among the glamorous gowns and A-list crowd, you can always expect seeing a few surprises during Fashion Month. Maybe it’s an unexpected front-row sighting (like the Queen!) or an Instagram gimmick (see: Calvin Klein’s popcorn-filled runway) but we could have never expected things would take such a dark turn at Milan Fashion Week. The third leg of Fashion Month just kicked off with the most unusual coats and accessories — decapitated heads, reptiles as fashion statements and faceless parkas.
Gucci (pictured above and below) under Alessandro Michele has made major waves on runways and red carpets, becoming unmistakable in its statement-making style and setting all sorts of trends. And over at Moncler, the brand relaunched with an epic eight-part collaboration series called the Genius Group. It features designs from Pierpaolo Piccioli, Simone Rocha, Craig Green and more. And the collection by Pierpaolo Piccioli features the most glamorous winter parkas ever designed.
There were A-line shaped puffers, and puffers of ball skirts and capelets and even some coats with built in face masks, ensuring you’ll never miss another black tie gala because of a snow storm again. According to Vogue Runway, Piccioli wanted to evoke the Madonna, but we’re getting more horror-movie vibes from the faceless, quilted ensembles.
