A Manchester United fan has undergone emergency surgery after being stabbed in the chest by a taxi driver in Paris following the English team’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
The suspected attacker was arrested by French police on Thursday.
His victim, a 44-year-old Briton who has not been named, had watched a match between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

After the game he took a taxi with three other supporters, heading into central Paris from the Parc des Princes stadium in the south-west of the city.
The driver reportedly took offence when his passengers started singing loudly to celebrate United’s victory.
He stopped his cab and told them to get out. He then pulled out a knife and threatened a female passenger in the group.

The British man was stabbed with what was described as a large blade after stepping in to try to protect the woman.
He collapsed on the pavement, and one of the group flagged down a passing car to rush him to hospital.
He is being treated at the High Dependency Unit at the Georges Pompidou European Hospital in Paris. He had an operation to remove blood on his lung on Thursday afternoon.
Police have not yet found the weapon used in the attack. The suspected attacker remains in custody.
Supporters of the French team were disappointed that Manchester United succeeded in making a comeback in Paris, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 and progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. United striker Marcus Rashford scored a penalty in the closing minutes of the game.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are in touch with the French authorities following an incident involving a British man in Paris on 6th March and stand ready to offer assistance if required.”
