After being cleared of a lawsuit in Los Angeles court this week, “Ballers” has been renewed for Season 3, airing in 2017.
HBO and “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson made the announcement Thursday, adding another project to Rock’s busy TV/movie filming schedule.
“Dwayne Johnson, [creator] Stephen Levinson, [EP] Mark Wahlberg, and the rest of the ‘Ballers’ team have once again delivered a winner for our viewers,” said HBO Programming president Casey Bloys in a statement. “We look forward to another great season of ‘Ballers’ next year.”
Regarding the current Season 2 run, the first two episodes have been down from Season 1 in TV viewership and total consumption.
The Season 1 premiere in 2015 drew 8.9 million total views across all of HBO’s platforms, while the Season 2 premiere has grabbed 5.7 million views thus far, according to Deadline.com.
Concerning actual TV viewership, the first two episodes of each season break down:
Season 1, Ep. 1 – 2.162 million first-run
Season 2, Ep. 1 – 1.585 million first-run (2.31 million with DVR added)
Season 1, Ep. 2 – 1.846 million first-run
Season 2, Ep. 2 – 1.278 million first-run
