SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team embarks on its postseason journey, traveling to St. Cloud, Minn. for the Super Region 3 Championships on Feb. 23-24.
The regional will be held at Halenbeck Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State and there will be two sessions on each day of the tournament. On Feb. 23, Session I will begin at 10 a.m. and Session II will start at 4 p.m. On Feb. 24, Session III will start at 11 a.m. and Session IV will begin at 4 p.m.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the national tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 9-10.
The Field
The Super Region 3 Championships will feature 15 teams and will include six teams that are ranked in the most recent NWCA Division II top-25 poll (Feb. 16). The field is headlined by host and last season’s national runner-up No. 1 St. Cloud State.
Other ranked teams include No. 6 Upper Iowa, No. 9 McKendree, No. 11 Minnesota State, No. 16 Lindenwood and No. 19 Maryville. Other teams receiving votes are Augustana, U-Mary, Minot State and Northern State
The remaining teams in the region are MSU Moorhead, Drury, Central Missouri, Truman State and Southwest Minnesota State.
Augustana’s Lineup
Augustana’s lineup will feature a returning All-American, two returning national qualifiers, nine wrestlers ranked regionally and six first-time regional participants.
Brandon Carroll | 125 | So. | Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt
Carroll is a returning national qualifier and reigning Super Region 3 Freshman of the Year. Carroll sports a record of 8-9 and ranks sixth in the region. Of Carroll’s eight wins, three have come via fall and two by tech fall.
Brayden Curry | 133 | Fr. | Sergeant Bluff, Iowa/Sergeant Bluff Luton
Curry is one of two true freshmen slated to compete this weekend for the Vikings. Curry went 16-11 during his inaugural campaign and sits in seventh in the region rankings. Curry can put up points in a hurry with 32 takedowns and 19 four-point nearfalls on the year to go with two pins, two tech falls and four major decisions.
Keaten Schorr | 141 | Fr. | Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville
Schorr is the second of the Viking true freshmen set to go in the regional. Schorr has had a stellar first year going 18-5 and ranking fourth in the region. Schorr is a punishing wrestler who has 41 takedowns and 12 four-point nearfalls to go with three falls, two tech falls and four major decisions.
Oscar Ramirez Jr. | 149 | Sr. | Estherville, Iowa/Estherville Lincoln Central/IWCC
Ramirez is a two-time NJCAA All-American and will be wrestling in his first regional as a Viking. Ramirez has had a strong senior season with a record of 17-10, including going 12-3 in dual matches. Ramirez sits in sixth in the region but has a win over third-ranked Isaiah Kemper (McKendree) with a 10-6 decision in the quarterfinals at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 16.
Bruce Lemon Jr. | 157 | Sr. | Frazee, Minn./Frazee
Lemon is another senior making his for regional as a Viking. Lemon is in the midst of his best season as a Viking with a record of 13-7 and five falls, both career-highs. Lemon has wrestled three of the top-eight region wrestlers on the season and even though he dropped all three matches, Lemon only lost by a combined five points in those matches.
Regan Bye | 165 | So. | Vermillion, S.D./Vermillion/Nebraska
Bye enters his first regional with a record of 16-10 and has won eight of his last 10 matches. With Bye’s late-season success, he seems to be peaking at the right time, having only lost once since the calendar turned to 2018. Bye sits in seventh in the region rankings and his 0-3 against foes ranked ahead of him.
Lukas Poloncic | 174 | So. | Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County
Poloncic makes his second regional appearance after took sixth as a redshirt freshman in last season’s Super Region 3 Championship. Poloncic comes in with a record of 15-13 and has 11 bonus point victories on the year. Poloncic sits seventh in the region and has wrestled five of the other seven wrestlers that are ranked.

Aero Amo | 184 | Sr. | Rapid City, S.D./Central
Amo is a returning All-American and a back-to-back regional champ at 184 pounds. Amo enters the regional with a record of 10-2, having won his last eight matches. During Amo’s eight-match win streak, he’s won four matches against regionally ranked wrestlers and sits atop the region rankings. Half of Amo’s wins this season have come via bonus points.
Clayton Wahlstrom | 197 | Jr. | Custer, S.D./Custer
Wahlstrom is making his second regional appearance as a Viking after going 2-2 at the regional as a redshirt freshman. Wahlstrom is the Vikings leader this season in wins with 22 and takedowns with 44. Walstrom carries a record of 22-10 and a region ranking of third into the regional.
Luke Nohns | 285 | Jr. | Normal, Ill./Normal Community West/IWCC
Nohns, a transfer from Iowa Western CC, is making his first regional appearance as a Viking. At Iowa Western, Nohns was a two-time NJCAA national qualifier and an All-American as a sophomore. Nohns brings a record of 12-8 in the regional and is ranked eighth.
