HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A Cook County sheriff’s police officer was rescued from her burning patrol car by an unknown man early Thursday in Hoffman Estates. The officer — who injuries weren’t life-threatening — had been trapped in her car following an accident with another vehicle, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The crash happened at around 3:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, near Golf and Barrington roads, the report stated. The officer was on her way to a domestic-related call at the time, but it’s unclear how the accident occurred or why the vehicle caught fire, the report added.

A man then stopped following the crash and pulled the officer from the burning car, the sheriff’s office told the Tribune. But authorities who responded to the incident were unable to get the man’s name or any other information about him before he left, the report added.

The officer was treated for her injuries, the report stated. Hoffman Estates police are investigating the crash.
