The Delhi-NCR has been a victim to dust storms for the last three days and the MeT department said that it might stay for another 3-4 days. The dust storm, which started on Tuesday, intensified on Wednesday. The city’s air quality index was in the severe category at 445, a day after logging in a poor 296.
The dust storm has severely increased the concentration of PM10 particles (particles in the air with a diameter less than 10mm) in the air, and these particles can often settle in your lungs.
Several places in Delhi-NCR have an Air Quality Index(AQI) above 500, which according to the AQI rating is ‘severe’ or ‘hazardous’. Anand Vihar in East Delhi has an AQI of 867.
