For nearly a decade, Suzy Amis Cameron’s “Red Carpet Green Dress Challenge” has been a fixture on the Oscars red carpet. She taps big-name stars (like Emma Roberts, Sophie Turner, Naomie Harris, Gina Rodriguez and Lakeith Stanfield) to wear high-end designs made entirely of sustainable materials. And for 2019, PEOPLE can exclusively announce the two buzzy stars picked to support the cause.
Laura Harrier of BlacKkKlansman fame and Danielle Macdonald, who you may know from the two Netflix hits Bird Box and Dumplin’, will represent the eco-friendly cause (while wearing high-fashion designs, of course) at this year’s Academy Awards.

Both actresses were featured in Oscar-nominated films this year. Harrier starred in the six-time nominee BlacKkKlansman, and Macdonald is on-hand for the Short Film (Live Action) nominated film, Skin, which she starred in.
It will be the first time each have attended the awards show and both are psyched to represent sustainable fashion for their first time on the Oscars red carpet.
“Sustainable living is important to me so it’s very exciting that I’ll be able to apply that sensibility to the dress that I’ll wear to the Oscars this year for BlacKkKlansman,” Harrier tells PEOPLE. “Suzy’s efforts are so commendable and I’m thrilled to join the Red Carpet Green Dress campaign for the 10th Anniversary.”
And Macdonald feels just as thrilled to be apart of the campaign.
“I’m so honored to be a part of Red Carpet Green Dress this year,” Macdonald tells PEOPLE. “I believe it is a powerful initiative and allows designers to think outside the box to create environmentally-friendly fashion. I am thrilled to be a part of such a positive movement to help create the change I want to see in this world.”
The designers that they’re wearing won’t be revealed yet (we have to wait for Sunday, February 24th to find out) but the ladies will both be wearing ethical gowns from big-name global fashion houses (Vivienne Westwood, Armani and Ermenegildo Zegna are a few names who’ve worked with Red Carpet Green Dress in the past).
Whichever brands they wear though, they must follow the Red Carpet Green Dress criteria.
According to the press reels, in order to be considered an eco-conscious garment, each piece must either be made from sustainable materials, including organic, recycled or repurposed fibers. Other features include using hand-made detailing or incorporate natural dye processing that focuses on having a minimal negative impact on the environment, and environmentally and socially responsible design.
The entire initiative kicked off 10 years ago with the goal to challenge designers to incorporate sustainable practices into dress making.
“I can’t believe it has been 10 years since RCGD was born,” Amis Cameron tells PEOPLE. “It has been an incredible journey and inspiring to see how the campaign has grown every year. I am so proud of helping people become more aware of what sustainable fashion can look like and its impact on the planet. What we wear and the fashion industry has a tremendous impact on the environment — and people’s choices can move the marketplace and the climate change needle.”
Even if you’re not heading to the Oscars or can wear an ethically made designer gown in your every day life, Amis Cameron says every small act counts. “From changing one of your meals a day to a plant-based meal, to wearing vintage or ethically made clothes, we can all make a difference,” she says.
