Lyon met last week with representatives of the promising Ivorian striker Nicolas Pépé about a possible January transfer window move, according to our colleagues at L’Équipe.

Lyon are looking to sign an attacker next month, and Pépé, alongside AS Roma’s Juan Iturbe, appear to be at the top of Les Gones’ list. After taking this first step, the Lyon representatives are now hoping to meet with the player in person.

Interest in Pépé is considerable, with AS Monaco, Lille, AS Roma, Juventus and Newcastle United having all watched the player in numerous occasions this season.

This is why Angers have set a €10m asking price excluding bonuses for the player.

Lyon have already attempted to lower that price, according to the report, by seeking to include Maxwel Cornet and/or Jean Philippe Mateta in an eventual deal.

Another key element in this potential deal is that Lyon are only interested in signing the player in January if he does not go to the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast.
