In their search to replace Nayef Aguerd (26), Bruno Genesio’s Rennes are targeting Fenerbahçe centre-back Kim Min-Jae (25) and the club’s technical director Florian Maurice has already travelled out to Turkey in an attempt to advance the deal, according to RMC.

The South Korea international defender has a contract that runs through until 2025, but Rennes are set to test their resolve to keep hold of the player, who only signed last summer for €3m, but who has since become an essential pillar of Fenerbahçe’s defence. Former Beijing Guoan centre-back Min-Jae made 30 appearances in the Turkish Süper Lig last season as Fenerbahçe finished second.

Rennes aren’t the only side interested in Min-Jae. Ligue 1 rivals Marseille are also reported to hold an interest in the player, but any deal for the player is at a less advanced stage.

Genesio has already worked with Min-Jae during his time at Beijing Guoan. The South Korean arrived just before Genesio and was transferred to Turkey just months after the current Rennes manager’s departure from China.
