DARREN SWEETNAM HAS committed his future to Munster rugby by signing a new contract and thus ending speculation about a possible Cork hurling return.
The 21 year-old emerged as a brilliant hurling prospect in 2012 with his midfield performances for the Cork team that reached the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway.
Sweetnam is currently a Munster Academy player and has signed a new two-year contract, moving to development status for 2015/16 and a full contract for 2016/17.
In October 2012, Sweetnam decided to focus his attentions on rugby and accepted a development contract with Munster.
The winger has made 7 Munster ‘A’ appearances in the British and Irish Cup, and represented the Irish U20′s in the 2013 6 Nations and Junior World Championship.
Sweetnam is highly rated by Munster’s coaching staff and will hope to be involved with the first-team next season.
