Karl Lagerfeld has directed a new film about Coco Chanel, to be shown at
the Chanel Métiers d’Arts show on December 1. Lagerfeld casted American
actress Kristen Stewart to play the iconic founder, as part of a fictional
biopic.

The film was conceived entirely by the Chanel creative director, and shot
at Luc Besson’s studio in Paris in July. Stewart will star alongside
actress Geraldine Chaplin, who has already played the French icon in one of
Lagerfeld’s earlier films.

“They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?” Lagerfeld
told WWD.

Chanel’s Métiers d’Art is an annual event honouring the fine craftsmanship
its artisan partners bring to the Chanel collections. With a runway show
that takes place outside the traditional fashion schedule, each year Chanel
turns to a different location to pay tribute to the workshops that provide
the house with everything from lace to silver buttons and fine embroidery
work.
