As an adult human in the second half of his 20s, it doesn’t require much introspection to declare this: 14-year-old Millie Bobby Brown has better style than I’ll ever project. Indeed, a glam squad that includes stylist Thomas Carter Phillips, the man responsible for securing her glitzy Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein gowns, surrounds the Stranger Things star. But it takes swag to pull those looks off — especially as a young teen.

And swag is what she didn’t leave at home on Monday night at the 2018 MTV VMAs, where the actress first hit the red carpet and later the stage as a presenter. (Her connection to music? An appearance in Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” video featuring Cardi B). For the occasion, Brown wore a stunning black Rosie Assoulin jumpsuit with cutouts, along with an excellent shoulder detail that made her look like a goth angel.

While Stranger Things and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters keeps Bobby Brown in the spotlight, she also recently made headlines for another subject: bullying. She quit Twitter in June after internet trolls turned images of her into a homophobic meme. Her bio on another inactive but verified account reads, “I want this account to share love and positivity. Let’s stop bullying.”

Luckily, it seems like the VMAs paved the way for smooth sailing.
