Catch up on some of the statistical highlights from Minnesota’s 2014-15 season

The 2014-15 Gopher Wrestling season ended last Saturday at the NCAA Championships. With the season now officially in the books, statistics for the season are final as well. Below, explore some of the highlights of the Gophers’ season – by the numbers.

5 Logan Storley led the team with five tech falls. Storley leaves Minnesota with 18 career tech falls.

6 The Gophers produced five All-Americans this year, marking the sixth consecutive season the program has finished with five or more All-Americans. That is the second-longest streak in program history.

7 Logan Storley and Michael Kroells each wrestled in a team-high seven matches that went to sudden victory overtime and/or tiebreakers this season.

10 Scott Schiller led the team with 10 major decisions, matching a career high set last season.

10 With Dylan Ness and Logan Storley each becoming four-time All-Americans this season, the Gophers now have 10 four-timers in program history. Ness and Storley join: Luke Becker, Damion Hahn, Cole Konrad, Chad Kraft, Jared Lawrence, Tony Nelson, Jayson Ness and Zach Sanders.

12 Dylan Ness led the team with 12 falls. Ness matched his career high, which he set last season. His 12-fall seasons are tied for the 25th-best in Gopher history.

14 Chris Dardanes led the team in ranked wins, knocking off 14 ranked opponents (which accounts for 52 percent of his victories this season). His 14-2 record against ranked opponents was also the best winning percentage on the team (.875).

19 Dylan Ness led the team with 19 bonus point wins (12 falls and seven major decisions). His percentage of victories with bonus points – 61 percent – was also best on the team.

23 Michael Kroells wrestled more ranked opponents than any other Gopher this season, stepping into the circle against a ranked foe 23 times. More than half – 53 percent – of Kroells’ matches were against a ranked opponent.

25 The fastest pin recorded by a Gopher this year took just 25 seconds. Logan Storley accomplished the feat against Mathew Totey (Northland Community and Technical College) at the Bison Open.

25 Chris Dardanes and Scott Schiller joined the ranks of three-time All-Americans with their performances this season. They became the 24th and 25th Gophers to achieve that.

26 Two Gophers began their 2014-15 seasons 26-0 – Dylan Ness and Chris Dardanes. Those not only mark the best starts to a season in both of their respective careers, but it also tied them with Dave Dean for the 15th-longest winning streak in program history.

30 The Gophers produced at least one All-American for the 30th straight season, a streak that includes all 29 seasons under Head Coach J Robinson.

31 Among varsity competitors, Dylan Ness and Logan Storley tied for the team lead in wins this season, with 31 each. For Ness, the 31 victories were a new career high.

32 Among redshirting wrestlers this year, Tommy Thorn led the team in victories, with 32. Thorn went 32-5 this season, winning three open tournaments and placing third at three others.

37 Dylan Ness finished his Gopher career with 37 pins, tied with Mike Thorn for ninth-most in Gopher history.

44 Michael Kroells wrestled more matches than any other Gopher – even those redshirting this year – by taking the mat 44 times.

62 Dylan Ness led the team in dual meet point scoring, with 62 points. He racked up that total with six falls, two major decisions, four decisions and a victory by forfeit.

119 Among the five starters in this year’s senior class, Logan Storley departs with the most wins, 119. That ties him for 16th in program history with Dan Zilverberg.

118 Not far behind Storley, Scott Schiller will graduate with 118 career wins, tying him with Damion Hahn for 18th on the Gophers’ all-time list.

100+ Like Storley and Schiller, Nick Dardanes and Chris Dardanes earned their 100th career victories this season, and will graduate with 109 and 101 wins, respectively.

.843 Schiller finished his Gopher career with an .843 winning percentage (118-22). That mark is the 15th-best in program history.

.897 The five senior starters for the Gophers combined to post an .897 winning percentage in dual meets this season (52-6).
